Faculty members preparing to retire from the university should consult with the Benefits department and submit an Intent to Retire form with effective date of retirement. Please visit the Benefits website for more information regarding retirements. Additional information can be found on the CalPERS web at https://www.calpers.ca.gov.

Retiring faculty should complete the Exit Survey (anonymous, electronic submission).

Eligible tenured faculty unit employees who have reached their retirement formula age (age 55, 60 or 62 depending on your date of hire) may participate in the Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP). Faculty members wishing to participate in FERP will still need to go through the regular retirement process with the Benefits department. The deadline to submit your intent to participate in FERP is on or around March 1st for the following Academic Year.

Pre-Retirement Reduction in Time Base (PRTB)

Prior to retirement, an eligible tenured faculty member may elect to participate in the PRTB program.  PRTB allows a faculty member a reduced timebase (2/3, 1/2, or 1/3) and corresponding pay while maintaining full benefits (health, dental, etc.) and service time accrual.  Participation in this program is limited to a maximum of 5 years. For more information and/or to submit your intent to participate in PRTB, download a copy of the "Request to Participate in PRTB" form found on our "Forms" page.  Additional information can be found in Article 30 of the Unit 03 Faculty contract.
