The Alumni Association, open to all alumni and friends of the University, was founded on July 20, 1950 to encourage alumni involvement with their alma mater and to support the campus community.

Governed by a 29-member Board of Directors, the Association offers its members various opportunities to volunteer and participate in social and fundraising activities.

The Alumni Association provides members with the opportunity to network with fellow Hornets who share professional or social interests through chapters including: Art; ASI; Black Alumni; Business Alumni; Communication Studies; Construction Management; Criminal Justice; Engineering & Computer Science; English; Football/Spirit; Hong Kong; Hornets Policy & Politics; Latino; Men's Basketball & Friends; Nursing; Recreation, Parks & Tourism Administration; Speech Pathology & Audiology; Urban Collective; and Veterans/ROTC.

Events are another way the Alumni Association keeps alumni active in the life of the University.  Annual events include Alumni Month every April, the Causeway Classic, Homecoming, Grad Fest and the Prestigious Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony.  Members of the Alumni Association also support students through donations to the Alumni Scholarship Fund.  Each year 12-15 scholarships ranging from $1,000-$2,000 are awarded to deserving Sacramento State students.

Student Alumni Association

Current students are encouraged to join the Student Alumni Association (SAA).  The student-based organization strives to help students forge a lifelong connection to their alma mater through engaging students with alumni.

Leslie and Anita Harper Alumni Center

Maintained and operated by the Alumni Association, the Harper Alumni Center is an outstanding venue that may be rented by the general public for meetings, conferences, weddings, receptions and other social events. It truly provides a “home” on campus for alumni and a place for activities that help alumni strengthen ties to the students, the campus, and the community.  Alumni Association members receive a 10 percent discount on room rental fees.

Year in Review

As we are about to start the next academic year, it's a great time to reflect on how alumni throughout the community stay involved. Giving of their time, talent and treasure as volunteers, attending events and more. Now is a great time to get involved, make a difference today!

  • Awarded twenty scholarships to incredible students totaling over $37,000
  • Recognized seven alumni with Distinguished Alumni Awards
  • Created corporate Lunch and Learn events and connected 80 alumni with fellow Hornets at work
  • Alumni leaders contributed over 2,300 volunteer hours through Alumni Association activities
  • Over 50 alumni volunteered at signature events like Homecoming and Grad Fest
  • Served more than 7,000 graduating students with two Grad Fest events
  • More than 1,400 graduating students joined the Alumni Association - #HornetProud!
  • Engaged alumni with students through activities of the Student Alumni Association (SAA) in casual mentoring events such as Mocktail Networking Party and Career Buzz Panels
  • Welcomed more than 7,000 future alumni to the Hornet family through participation in 26 New Student Orientation sessions
  • The annual Homecoming Festival brought together 10,000+ alumni, students and community members to celebrate Sac State
  • Five chapters hosted signature events during Alumni Month (April) and five also participated in the Homecoming Festival festivities
  • Thanks to volunteer leadership, we have 17 active Alumni Chapters and more than 5 in the pipeline
  • The Harper Alumni Center hosted more than 475 events of all sizes for campus and community groups
  • The Alumni Association hosted events year round for alumni, including 23 that took place just during Alumni Month (April) engaging over 1,500 alumni
  • Focused on regional events/activities in the SF Bay Area, Washington D.C. and New York City
  • Expanded career resources for alumni through strategic partnership with the Career Center on campus
  • Expanded member benefits including special access to The WELL (campus recreation center) for recent graduates
