Class Notes

The Sacramento State Alumni Association wants to hear from you, and share your story with your fellow Hornets! Have you recently gotten a promotion? Won an award? Started a business? Got married or had a child? If so, please submit a class note.

To submit a class note, please complete our online form. Your note will be submitted for publication in our monthly Sac State Connection e-newsletter, the Sac State Magazine as well as the Class Notes section of our website.

Because of the production schedule and volume of notes received, class notes submitted today will appear as soon as possible. The Sac State Magazine is published in March, June (online only) and September.

In addition, we have the right to remove inappropriate submissions before they are published. Please be aware that text is limited in the Sac State Magazine, which can result in shortened submissions; full submissions will be in the online class notes content.

Sac State Tiny House wins best bathroom
Sac State won the award for best bathroom on the final day of the SMUD Tiny House Competition on Oct. 15 at Cosumnes River College, where despite the looming threat of storm conditions, thousands of people filled parking lot E to tour the small living spaces.

'Guys and Dolls' is an odds-on favorite
A couple of gamblers, a nightclub singer, and a missionary cross paths on their way to romance and a fateful craps game in Sac State's production of the popular musical comedy Guys and Dolls. Part of the theatre and dance program's 60th anniversary celebration, Guys and Dolls features music by Frank Loesser and is directed by Professor Ed Brazo on the main stage of the University Theatre. Performances are from Nov. 9-20.

Sac State is one of the world's most sustainable campuses
Sac State is the only California school recognized as a top performer by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). Sac State was singled out for the ongoing maintenance and operations of existing campus buildings and the design and construction of new buildings (including the LEED-certified American River Courtyard and The WELL).

Innovative law enforcement partnership
History was made at Sac State when President Robert S. Nelsen, Sacramento Police Chief Sam Somers Jr. '88 (Communication Studies), and California Highway Patrol Assistant Chief Jonni Fenner joined forces to launch the Law Enforcement Candidate Scholars (LECS) program-the first of its kind in the nation. Also signing the partnership agreement was LECS founding director Shelby Moffatt, "We believe this to be the gold standard in higher education."

They came, they saw, they danced
Students who attended the third annual Dance Marathon were treated with a fun-filled night of dance competitions, games, prizes and more as part of Homecoming week festivities. Attendees witnessed the reveal of total funds raised for the Student Emergency Grant Fund (Hornet Proud Fund) during the time since the last event in fall 2015. The result was impressive: a total of $40,075 was raised!
