StudyMate is an authoring tool that enables instructors to create learning activities such as flashcards, crossword puzzles, pick-a-letter, fill-in-the-blank, and challenge-type games. These activities can be published to any Web page or included in a SacCT or Canvas course. StudyMate is available to all Sac State faculty and staff, for university or personally-owned computers. Note: This is a Windows-only software application.

Key Features

  • Create and Edit: eLearning activities and games that can be accessed from a computer, phone or tablet.  Choose from 12 learning activities (including flash cards, self-quizzes, crosswords, and more) support a range of learning styles.
  • Test Bank Network: connect to test banks from many publisher textbooks (after a registration process) that you can use to easily create activities.
  • Import Content: created in Word/Text files or Respondus and edit in StudyMate and publish to a Canvas course(s).
  • Publish: activities created or imported into StudyMate to your Canvas course(s).

Who Can Use StudyMate?

Faculty and staff that are affiliated with Sac State and will utilize this resource for campus purposes, can download StudyMate from the Software for University Owned Device or Software for Personally Owned Device  webpages.

Our license allows you to install a copy of the StudyMate software on a personal computer. However, you are not permitted to provide the StudyMate software or the password information to anyone who is not affiliated with our institution. Such an action is a violation of our licensing agreement with Respondus. If a Sac State colleague would like a copy of the software, refer them to the Software for Personally Owned Device webpage.

Access and Download StudyMate

Personally Owned Devices

You can install a copy of the StudyMate software to a personal computer. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Software for Personally Owned Device webpage.
  2. Locate StudyMate Author Campus-Wide from the table (programs listed by Software Title).
  3. From the “Order” column to the right, click the link Install StudyMate Author Campus-Wide link.
  4. At the Office 365 prompt enter your saclink email address and select Next.
  5. Enter your Saclink Username and Password and select Login.
  6. Save the Zip file,, to your computer (select a location that is easy to find such as your Desktop or Downloads).
  7. Open the file you downloaded. It contains three files:
    • StudyMateCampus25.exe - the installation file.
    • StudyMate New Installation Instructions.docx - instructions and license information.
    • StudyMate License Information.docx - for faculty renewing the software
  8. Review the StudyMate License Information & Installation Instructions before installing the StudyMate software.
  9. Open the StudyMateCampus25.exe file and install the software.
  10. Begin using StudyMate. 

University Owned Devices

Since you may need admin access to install applications and programs to a work computer, please submit a Service Request to install StudyMate to a work desktop or laptop computer.

  1. Navigate to the Software for University Owned Device webpage.
  2. Locate StudyMate Author Campus-Wide from the list of software and click the Request StudyMate Author Campus-Wide link.
  3. Complete the Service Ticket. Enter a description for your request (i.e. Installation of StudyMate software to work computer).
  4. Enter your contact information - saclink username, email and phone.
  5. Click Submit.
