The Timothy A. Hodson Capital Fellows Assistance Fund was established in 2012 after the passing of the Center's longtime Executive Director, Tim Hodson. The Fund provides need-based support for Capital Fellows for the purposes of relocation and other expenses necessary for participation in the fellowship.

Tim Hodson served as the Executive Director for the Center for California Studies from 1993 through 2011. During his tenure, the Center won acclaim as one of the top ten internship programs in the nation. Tim believed passionately in public service and strived through the Capital Fellows program to give young people representing all the diversity of California an opportunity to work in government while at the same time learning about government. The Timothy A. Hodson Capital Fellows Assistance Fund continues his vision of nurturing aspiring public servants who may not otherwise have the means to participate in the program.

Since its inception, the Fund has provided 48 Capital Fellows with the critical financial bridge needed to start the fellowship, covering costs ranging from housing deposits to professional attire.
