The sports community in Sacramento has a proud history of making a significant impact on the health and prosperity of our great, diverse, and vibrant city. Sacramento State’s Athletic Department is driving this momentum through the efforts of our dedicated faculty, coaches, and staff. Together, they are helping our student-athletes pursue excellence on and off the field during college and positive change in our region upon graduation.
We are proud to support 500 individual student-athletes who are working hard and graduating with the skills needed to be successful in the workforce, whether their careers be in sports or not. In Spring 2019, the overall GPA for student-athletes at Sacramento State was 3.105. This is even higher than the already impressive overall GPA of the average Sacramento State student, which is 2.968. The NCAA’s most recent report on Graduation Success Rate also showed that 100 percent of Sacramento State teams exceed the national graduation rate.
Our student-athletes are seeing success on the field and court as well. For the first time in the 26- year history of the Division I era, Sacramento State Hornet Football Team became Big Sky Conference Champions in 2019 while earning an opportunity to compete in the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
Our student-athletes rise to every challenge during their time at Sacramento State. They work hard juggling practice demands, team activities, volunteerism, and their studies. All along the way, the Athletics Department is there to support them to ensure they can exemplify what it means to be a Hornet.
With a gift to the Athletics Department, you can help more student-athletes thrive at Sacramento State and beyond.
On the Rise: The Campaign for Sacramento State, is supporting the Athletics Department as it seeks to raise funds to advance these important initiatives:
Secure more scholarship funds to help student-athletes access and obtain a Sacramento State degree within four years and realize their dreams.
Transform student learning spaces and deepen instruction in a variety of sports-related fields.
Expand event-space facilities from a humble stadium to a full-fledged event center with seating for up to 5,000 attendees for concerts, community gatherings, and competitive events. This facility will be a point of pride for our Sacramento community partners and students alike.
Increase scholarship funding to support our students as they compete at the Division I level. Currently only 60 students receive summer scholarships (stipends) to support their goal of graduating in four years.
Attract talented student-athletes, of any gender or sport, to our competitive program by bolstering our facilities, coaching staff, and academic assistance programs that are aimed at supporting the full person.
Provide fully supported academic resources, learning, and nutrition centers for student-athletes as well as intramural participants, and community partners.
Attract and retain coaching talent so our student-athletes can compete at the top-level of performance nationally.
Provide holistic approach to the student-athletes' health and wellness, including access to healthy food choices and more study areas that are open during the summer, weekends, and post or pre-team training sessions.
Events Center & Stadium Renovation
To continue to give our student-athletes, coaches, and community the competitive edge, we are currently transforming key athletics facilities up to the modern standards of an elite athletics program. Together, we can create an event center and sports complex that matches the high caliber of our students and community.
Invest In The Future
Scholarships are among the most rewarding ways to give to Sacramento State because they directly impact students’ lives. They also help celebrate and motivate our best and brightest students.
