Strategic Growth Opportunities in International Business

Join us in learning why as a small business or startup you should pursue global markets!

We are excited to bring to you during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2021 an opportunity to learn about how you can grow your business strategically through international business. The Carlsen Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is excited to partner with the World Trade Center Northern California in running this workshop to exploring the opportunities to grow your business through global trade. International business is a way to source what your company needs and to find new markets or customers.

You will learn about:

  • How you can get started in international trade?

  • What the fundamentals of importing and exporting?

  • What resources are available to help you?

Additionally you will learn how companies have successfully taken that next step to grow their business through international trade.

This presentation will:

  • Share insights into the fundamentals of importing, exporting and cross border e-commerce

  • Discuss how to manage potential risks

  • Offer next steps to take your business global

The workshop will be led by Kevin Mather, President and CEO of the World Trade Center Northern California. Kevin is and experienced President with a demonstrated history of working in the international trade and development industry.

About Our Presenter: Dan Casas-Murray

Dan is the founder at The Lean Innovator, an organization that helps entrepreneurs locate and engage with their target markets, enabling them to build a customer base before launching a startup. He is also an advisor for the Capital Region Small Business Development Center, and helps clients to employ lean innovation methodologies while getting their businesses started.

During Global Entrepreneurship Week 2021, powered by Western Health Advantage, we are excited to bring you an opportunity to learn from the creator of the Culture Canvas as well as the author and owner of Great Mondays, Josh Levine. In this workshop, you will explore the power of designing a company culture employees love! This introductory session on company culture is to set the stage of what culture is and identify the core components of building company culture.

You will learn:

  • The definition of culture

  • Why it is today's only sustainable competitive advantage

  • The six components of culture

About the Facilitator

Josh Levine is the founder and principal of Great Mondays, a culture-design company serving established technology firms, startups, and social enterprises including philanthropies, foundations, and schools. He is also the co-founder of CULTURE LABx, an international nonprofit with chapters in Sacramento, New York, Denver, San Francisco, Atlanta, Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto.

From Athlete to Entrepreneur Featuring Lisa Wrightsman

Join us in learning how to create possibility by utilizing the athletic and entrepreneurial mindset!

We are excited to bring to you during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2021 presented by Western Health Advantage a conversation with Lisa Wrightsman, Managing Director and Tiffany Fraser, National Chief of Staff of Street Soccer USA, Sacramento. This event is powered by Sacramento State Athletics as well as the Carlsen Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship.

During this discussion you will hear from Lisa and Tiffany who will share their journey from college soccer players at Sacramento State to entrepreneurs. They will speak to starting up Street Soccer in Sacramento and how they and their team have scaled the social venture and its impact across the region.

Join us in learning how to create possibility by harnessing the athletic and entrepreneurial mindset! The event is taking place via Zoom and a Zoom link will be sent upon registration.

In celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2021, powered by Western Health Advantage, we are excited to present an Entrepreneurial State of the Union discussing our region's innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem! This event is set to launch us into a full week of events, workshops, and pitch competitions.

This virtual event will highlight a keynote speaker, Fay Horwitt, in a keynote presentation and fireside chat where she will discuss the E3 (Equity for Every Entrepreneur) framework to building an entrepreneurial ecosystem. She will also speak to how successful entrepreneurship development can lead to a thriving region and one that is equitable to all. In addition to the keynote, this event will elevate key assets in the ecosystem through four Lightning Talks! The four assets elevated at this event will represent the four essential building blocks for any entrepreneurial ecosystem: people, programs, networks, and narratives.*

About Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW)

Join the Carlsen Center, entrepreneurs, students from Sac State, regional community colleges and UC Davis, alumni and community members for a week of dynamic presentations, panel discussions and pitch competitions, all focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, and ingenuity.

We will celebrate GEW with college pitch competitions, workshops, happy hour conversations and presentations from local startup founders across the Sacramento Region, along with presentations from authors of startup tools that are included in our Virtual Entrepreneurship Toolkit Series: Josh Levine (Building Company Culture) and David Bland (Precoil).
