Schools Financial Credit Union, a nonprofit headquartered in Sacramento, California, is a member-owned financial cooperative with more than $2 billion in assets and 153,000 members. Schools Financial Credit Union was founded in 1933 by seven teachers who pooled five dollars each for the purpose of creating a savings cooperative from which low-cost loans could be made to members.  From that humble beginning, Schools Financial now ranks as one of the largest credit unions in California and the nation.

Originally formed to serve school employees, the Credit Union eventually opened its membership eligibility to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Sutter, Yuba, Butte, Nevada, San Joaquin, Solano, Yolo, Napa and Sonoma counties.

Because of its early commitment to the educational community, Schools Financial Credit Union has established this scholarship to provide assistance to students who are seeking to become educators. Preference is given to those individuals who will give back to the community by serving in schools with large populations of students from underrepresented populations.

  • Limited to students accepted or enrolled in any College of Education credential program
  • Financial need not required
  • Must be enrolled full time at time of award
