About Communication Studies
Courses in Communication Studies focus on understanding the communication process and developing skills to communicate effectively.
The Department offers a wide range of courses in interpersonal, group, and organizational communication, rhetorical theory and criticism, public relations, mass communication and research methodologies.
General Communication Studies
The B.A. in General Communication Studies consists of 39 units, with the flexibility to select courses based in: Small Group, Organizational, Interpersonal, Intercultural, Mass Communication and Rhetoric.
The Public Relations concentration has a theoretical base focused on the concepts of publics and communciation inform the experiential learning opportunities via internships and engagement with PRSSA chapters.
The Sac State Journalism program emphasizes writing, editing, and interactive media, preparing students for success in media-related jobs. Journalism majors can write for The State Hornet a weekly newspaper with daily web updates.
The Film major aims at developing a deeper understanding of the art and practice of film, its complex components, and the artists whose vision have inspired generations of filmmakers through interdisciplinary coursework.
