Faculty Spotlight: Meagan O'Malley

Dr. Meagan O’Malley has been selected for the Rising Star Award by the Sacramento State Alumni Association. It’s one of seven awards this year honoring alumni for their distinguished service, lifetime achievement, support and leadership, or outstanding contributions to Sacramento State. O’Malley will be honored along with the other recipients at the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Awards on Sept. 12.

O’Malley, now an Associate Professor of School Psychology, has come far since the time she presented a paper on bullying with Dr. Stephen Brock at a school psychology conference over a decade ago. “Her grandparents stood in the back of the room, beaming with pride,” Brock recalls, “as their Meagan began to make the transition from graduate student to highly respected academic.”

Since then, O’Malley has become one of the most highly respected school psychology academics in the nation, with dozens of publications, conference presentations, and grant awards credited to her.

After earning her Master’s in Education and a Pupil Personnel Services (School Psychology) credential, O’Malley went on to complete her doctorate and a post-doctoral internship at The School at Columbia University. She has since worked as a school psychologist, Research Associate, and Senior Research and Programmatic Advisor for WestEd. She joined the faculty at the Sacramento State College of Education in 2016. In just those few years, O’Malley has served as a member of the Faculty Senate’s Curriculum Polices Committee and Grade Appeals panel, on the College of Education’s Multicultural Education Conference Committee, and the Educational Research and Inquiry Committee. She has served as an intern school psychology supervisor and supervised two different assessment practicums, in addition to teaching graduate courses.
