Geography Computer Labs & Software
COVID-19 Edition: Accessing Campus GIS Resources from Home
As an enrolled student at Sacramento State, you have access to an array of shared data, file storage, and GIS software resources through the campus, including Esri's ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Desktop suite. There are two main resources that you can use to access these software and network resources:
- Installation on a personal computer (either your own computer or one obtained from campus). This is generally the best way.
- Use of GlobalProtect, the campus’ Virtual Private Network (VPN), to remotely access:
- Campus computers with ESRI and ERDAS software, and
- Other campus network resources, including the university U: drive and geography data server.

Support Contact
If you have problems connecting to the Geography Computer Lab machines, please submit a service ticket for help. Campus IT staff will then reach out to you to help address your connection issues.
Requesting a Computer from Campus
If you don’t have a computer that meets the system requirements, or don’t want to install the software on your own computer, you can work with a faculty member to request a computer from campus.
Laptops checked out from campus are on a first-come/first-served basis, and should come with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Desktop already installed. If you check out a laptop and find this is not the case, continue on with the instructions below to acquire and install the GIS software you need.
