Freshman Student - Summer Bridge Academy

Orientation Dates: July 8th & July 9th

Classes begin on: July 10 through August 8

The Educational Opportunity Program's Summer Bridge Academy is designed to provide assistance to EOP freshmen. The program works collaboratively with students to engage in an ongoing transition process from high school to college. The process focuses on academics, social network, and personal development to create a foundation for persistence towards a timely graduation.

 

The Summer Bridge Academy is a free intensive summer academic program designed to help incoming first-time EOP freshmen make a smooth transition from high school to college. All incoming EOP first-time freshman are required to participate in the Summer Bridge Academy. Summer Bridge participants are placed in academic courses. Summer Bridge students take two or three college courses and upon successful completion can earn 4 to 5 units of college credit.

All incoming EOP first time freshman are required to participate in EOP's Summer Bridge Academy.

What we offer:

  • Receive up to 5 college credits – dependent on number of courses you complete
  • Experience college courses
  • Be a step ahead of your freshmen class
  • Become familiar with the campus, its resources and services
  • Participate in on-campus activities and off-campus field trips
  • Connect with Sacramento State faculty and staff
  • Make friends from the rich and diverse Sacramento State student population of 250 to 300

The report concludes the following:

  • The second year retention rate for SB participants has been higher than the rate of all first-time freshmen in the past nine years (2005 – 2014)
  • Summer Bridge participants have gained higher good standing rates than their peers who came from much better academic backgrounds.
  • The summer of 2018, EOP Summer Bridge offered only general education course and credit based classes that count towards graduation.
  • Summer Bridge passing rates increase to by 3 percent in 2018, the total passing rate 99.7%

The EOP Summer Bridge Academy does NOT provide housing. Students are responsible for locating, securing, inspecting, and paying for their own living accommodations and transportation during the six-week program.

Please note that on-campus accommodations are NOT available for incoming first-time freshman during the six week Summer Bridge Program.

Sacramento State, the EOP Summer Bridge Academy, and the EOP staff assume no responsibility for contracts/leases between individuals, nor are they responsible or liable for the consequences of any off-campus student housing arrangement.

Who can participate in the Summer Bridge Academy?

SBA is mandatory for all incoming Sac State first-time freshmen who are admitted to EOP.

How much does Summer Bridge cost?

Similar to a scholarship, the Summer Bridge Academy is a FREE six-week program! We provide textbooks during the program to students who are attending Summer Bridge.

How long is Summer Bridge?

Summer Bridge is a five-week intensive academic program. 

What are the courses offered during the summer?

SBA offers the following courses: English, Math, GE courses, and a Leadership course.

Do I get credit for passing the courses?

Yes, students who pass the courses offered in Summer Bridge will get college credits.

Can I work while participating in the program?  

We highly recommend that students do not work during Summer Bridge since students will have an intense, full-time academic workload.

Does Summer Bridge provide housing?

NO, Summer Bridge does NOT provide housing. Students are responsible for locating, securing, inspecting, and paying for their own living accommodations and transportation during the 6-week program.

I have been admitted to EOP, what classes will I be taking during Summer Bridge?

We also will offer General Education courses (3 units) and a Leadership Course (1 unit).

I have been admitted to Summer Bridge and I am confused about registering for orientation, what should I do?

You must register for the EOP New Orientation through MySacState. Please visit the Orientation office website (https://www.csus.edu/orientation/index.html) for more information.  Check your Sacramento State portal (MySacState) daily for more information regarding the mandatory New Student Orientation program.
