A proud farewell to 5,000 new grads and President Gonzalez

Nearly 5,000 students – including bachelor's, master's, credential and doctorate in education candidates – walked down the aisle in caps and gowns during seven joyous Spring Commencement celebrations May 22-23 at Sleep Train Arena. President Alexander Gonzalez presided over his final graduation ceremonies after 12 years as Sacramento State's leader and, during the College of Arts and Letters event, he conferred an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree on NBC News anchor/reporter Lester Holt.

Engineering students' inventions aim at making everyday life easier

secondary story image Making it possible for people with shaky hands to feed themselves. Making it tougher for thieves to break into cabinets, lockers – and even homes. These are some of the real-life problems tackled by 34 Sacramento State seniors who graduated this spring with degrees in Computer Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Two of their inventions have been granted provisional patents and likely are on their way to the marketplace. Story and video

Sac State hosts prestigious political conference
Sac State and its Center for California Studies hosted the 15th annual State Politics and Policy Conference May 28-30. It marked the first time the national conference has been held on the West Coast and the first time at a teaching university.
Campus Master Plan gets green light from CSU
Sac State's Campus Master Plan 2015 – the blueprint for the next 20 years – was approved in May by the California State University Board of Trustees. The board also conferred the title of President Emeritus on Dr. Alexander Gonzalez.

Art Alumni Show reception

The Art Alumni Show includes a special reception and awards ceremony from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 5, at the Robert Else Gallery. Enjoy terrific works by alumni, students, faculty, and staff at this free, juried art show. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday through June 26.

On Lake Natoma:
Chill out at the Aquatic Center

Cool off this summer at Sac State's Aquatic Center on the shores of refreshing Lake Natoma. The center has equipment for rent, including canoes, kayaks, and hydro bikes. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. More
