Mural at Sac State anchors the capital’s public arts festival

Sacramento Mural at Sac State Sacramento State is the focal point of the citywide 2018 Wide Open Walls festival, hosting the signature mural on the west side of Shasta Hall, home to the University and Playwright’s theaters.

After an Aug. 9 kickoff featuring Congresswoman Doris Matsui, Mayor Darrell Steinberg and President Robert S. Nelsen, 12 well-known artists began spelling out S-A-C-R-A-M-E-N-T-O in letters 15 feet tall. The festival runs through Aug. 19.

“We are Sacramento’s university,” Nelsen says, “and it is exciting to see this collaboration come to fruition through Wide Open Walls. We at Sacramento State are proud to be an integral part of the region, and we hope the mural will bring many more Sacramentans to our campus to admire the artwork.”
