Sacramento’s ‘Anchor University’ opens its downtown venue
Sacramento State has officially planted its green-and-gold flag in the central city.
The University celebrated the grand opening of Sacramento State Downtown – at 304 S St. – on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
“Today is a historic day for Sacramento State. … Sac State Downtown will be at the heart of everything we do,” President Robert S. Nelsen told a crowd of more than 200 gathered outside the three-story, 30,610-square-foot facility.
Nelsen, who last week declared Sacramento State the “Anchor University” for the Sacramento community, was joined at the event by Mayor Darrell Steinberg and other University and regional dignitaries.
Sac State Downtown already is bustling with academic activity, including classes for the Public Policy and Administration master’s program. All eight colleges at the University are developing programs for the new facility.
