Grad student honored by CSU Trustees for dedication to service

Sac State Downtown Lay Vang exemplifies student service and success. His hard work has netted him the CSU system’s highest student honor.

Vang received a 2018 CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement at the trustees’ meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 11. One student from each CSU campus was honored.

A graduate student in career counseling who is one of 10 children, Vang saw his Hmong immigrant parents make many sacrifices to raise their family. At Sac State, he advises and connects students to campus resources, and facilitates career development workshops as a coach for the DEGREES Project.

“It is an honor to know Lay Vang,” said President Robert S. Nelsen. “He has proven himself academically, personally, and through his outstanding service in the community.”
