University lands $3.5 million federal grant to train STEM teachers

Students with petri dishes Sacramento State has landed significant seed funding – a five-year, $3.5 million federal grant – to launch a program that will pair University faculty with local school district staff to better develop and implement new statewide K-12 math and science teaching standards.

Dubbed STEM-POWER, the program’s goal is to ensure professionals involved with teacher preparation in the Sacramento region have the tools and skills they need to train the next generation of teachers.

“Sacramento will become the place where great K-12 STEM teaching and learning happens,” says Pia Wong, associate dean of the College of Education and principal investigator for the grant.
