Transgender actress, activist to share story of ‘Becoming Nicole’

Nicole Maines Nicole Maines recently made history as the first transgender actress to play a trans superhero on television, starring in the CW Network series Supergirl. This week, Maines and her father will bring the family’s story to Sacramento State as part of the University’s One Book celebration.

The Maines family was the subject of Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family, by Amy Ellis Nutt, chosen by Sac State students as the One Book for 2018-19.

Nicole and Wayne Maines will share their story with Assistant Professor Tristan Josephson at noon and again at 7 p.m. Thursday in the ballroom in the University Union.

“Our goal with One Book is to broaden understanding and give our campus community new insights,” says Professor Hellen Lee, faculty coordinator of the One Book Program. “We respect the dignity of each individual, and we use that as a guiding principle when choosing our books.”
