Giving Tuesday participation hits new highs

Return to Sac State Torchlight

Giving Tuesday donations set records this year across the nation and at Sacramento State. On Nov. 29, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the University made more than $130,000 in gifts—an 82 percent increase from last year’s donations. Contributing to the total were matching funds from The University Foundation at Sacramento State for gifts from faculty, staff, first-time donors, students and graduates of the last decade.

Giving Tuesday takes place annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and uses the power of social media to encourage online contributions. Scholarships and student support topped this year’s recipients of targeted support with more than $54,000 in gifts. The College of Arts and Letters came in second with $24,600 and the College of Health and Human Services rounded out the top three with nearly $12,000 in contributions.

Be sure to save the date for the next Giving Tuesday: Nov. 28, 2017. and mark your calendar to show your support for the University on the annual Big Day of Giving on May 4, 2017. To learn more about the impact of supporting programs and students at Sacramento State, visit
