CRJ 195: Criminal Justice Internship

To qualify for the course, a student must be a declared CRJ major and have senior status (90 units completed at the beginning of the semester of internship).

Application and Enrollment:

Because of the length of time involved in background checks and other preliminaries, the process for the Internship program begins in the prior semester.

CRJ 195 is not offered during the summer.

The filing period for Fall 2018 is now closed.

Filing Period Requirements:

All applications must be complete.  Neither early nor late applications will be accepted, nor applications submitted in any other manner.

All applicants will be notified of acceptance via the applicant’s Sac State email address.  Successful applicants will be notified of the mandatory orientation dates at that time.

Academic Requirements:

  1. CRJ major status.  Other majors, Expressed Interest in Criminal Justice, and CRJ minors will not be accepted.
  2. Senior status at beginning of Internship semester (90 units completed).  Earned units plus units-in-progress must total a minimum of 90.
  3. Recommended completion of CRJ 101, 102, 121, 123, 130, 141, and 160. Students may have these courses in progress at the time of application and these may be taken concurrently with the internship.

Failure to meet any of the academic requirements or filing deadlines described above will remove the applicant from consideration for the program.

The application decision of the Division of Criminal Justice is final.

Alternatives for students:

Like any other course the Division offers, CRJ 195 has a limited number of seats available and will not be able to accommodate every interested student.

Many agencies have an office dedicated to outreach, which can be extremely helpful to the student engaged in career exploration in the criminal justice field.  Some even offer opportunities to ride-along or job shadow.  Students who have not yet satisfied the prerequisites for the course, or were unsuccessful in obtaining a seat in CRJ 195, are encouraged to pursue this avenue of exploration.
