Language, Speech, and Hearing Specialist.  Sacramento City Unified School District.  Sacramento, California.

General Duties: 

-Identify and evaluate students with language, speech, and/or hearing disabilities through standard screening procedures.  Complete special language-learning assessments throughout the District for the DIS Supervisor and/or Director of Special Education/SELPA Director.

-Identify and evaluate students for Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems, order and program systems, train staff and primary communication partners and operation and incorporation of systems, and provide consultation hours to staff and student.

-Attend IEPs to discuss findings and make recommendations.

-Participate on interview panels for open Language, Speech, and Hearing Specialist positions.

-Supervision of CFY/RPE candidates of the Language, Speech, and Hearing Program staff.  Provision of new employee training and support.

-Development and maintenance of Language, Speech, and Hearing Specialist handbook.

-Completion of special assignments, including reading and approving reports and IEP’s, as assigned by the DIS Supervisor.

-Development of cooperative procedures in each school for the referral of students and

procedures for consultation with other staff members.

-Collaboration with classroom teachers, resource specialists, and other allied personnel to develop successful interventions.

-Development of performance objectives and lesson plans consistent with established district goals and objectives.

-Communication with students and parents regarding the educational and social progress of students.  Preparation of formal progress reports and provision of other information appropriate for inclusion in the cumulative records of students assigned.

-Interpretation of the programs and goals of the school district to the community.
