POLICY FOR ADDING/DROPPING COURSES

Obtain Petition to Add/Drop in the Department Offices

For adding/dropping courses, obtain the signature of the course Instructor. After obtaining the signature of the course Instructor, submit the Petition to Add/Drop to the appropriate Department office for approval. You must pick up your completed Petition from the Department Office.

ADDING A COURSE

EXCEPTIONS: 194, 294 - go to individual Departments
195, 295 - go to BUS 1032
199, 299 - go to the Degrees Programs Center

First Two Weeks: Use CASPER (Computer Access Student Phone Entry Registration). No approval is necessary. If CASPER will not add you to the course, obtain the Petition form and submit to the Department Office. Pick up form from Department office to confirm registration.

Weeks Three and Four: Obtain a Petition to Add. Secure the signature of the course Instructor and turn into the Department Office. Pick up form from Department office to confirm registration.

Courses beginning later in the semester: You must register before the end of the fourth week of the semester.

Weeks Five through Sixteen: (Only when non-enrollment is due to University error). Obtain a Petition to Add. Secure the signature of the course Instructor, and submit the Petition to the Department office. After you have picked up your Petition to Add, you must submit the Petition to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, or designee (Lassen Hall 1011).

DROPPING A COURSE

It is your responsibility to formally drop a course. If you do not, you will receive an "F" or "U" grade.

If you are dropping all courses for the semester, please follow the "Withdrawal from the University" procedures in your class schedule or contact the Academic Advising Center, Lassen Hall 1102, (916) 278-6351.

First Two Weeks (Open Period): Use CASPER. No approval is necessary.

Weeks Three through Four: Provide documentation to support a drop petition. Secure the signature of the course Instructor. The instructor's signature indicates only that s/he has been notified of your attempt to drop; this signature does not indicate approval. Submit the petition and documentation to the Department office within 1 week of obtaining the instructor's signature. Pick up form from Department office to confirm drop.

After the fourth week: Provide documentation to support a drop petition. Secure the signature of the course Instructor. The instructor's signature indicates only that s/he has been notified of your attempt to drop; this signature does not indicate approval. Pick up your completed Petition to Add/Drop from the Department office and sumit to Lassen Hall 1011.

Graduate students dropping 2nd eight week courses: all paperwork must be completed by the end of the first week of instruction.

Drop Criteria and Documentation Needed. You may be eligible to drop courses only for:

Medical problem(s) which prevent you from further attending University courses. Problem(s) should be documented by submitting: (a) physicians' statement, written on letterhead, containing reasons for dropping courses, (b) copy of your current class schedule, and (c) documentation with reason why your medical reason does not apply to all courses you are taking.

Other extraordinary circumstances that prevent you from further attending University courses. Submit your (a) current class schedule, (b) specific and verifiable circumstances supporting your drop petition, and (c) documentation with reason you are not dropping all courses for the semester.

A change in work hours or a job change is not considered serious and compelling.

YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DROP A COURSE IN WHICH YOU ARE RECEIVING A GRADE OF LESS THAN C- EXCEPT UNDER THE MOST COMPELLING CIRUCUMSTANCES.
