1996 Drawhorn, G. M. "Piltdown" Pacific Discovery49:4:45-46
1995 Drawhorn, G. M "The Paleodemography and Systematics ofthe Genus Pongo" Ph.D. Dissertation Supervisor: Dr. Henry M.McHenry
1986 Skelton, Randall R., H. M. McHenry and Drawhorn, G. M "PhylogeneticAnalysis of Early Hominids" Current Anthropology 27:21-43

[Skelton, McHenry and Drawhorn (1986) is frequently referred to asa seminal paper on the application of cladistic analysis in the interpretationof hominid evolutionary relationships: e.g., Ciochon and Fleagle 1993;Clarke 1988; Conroy 1990; Dean 1986; Delson 1987; Fleagle 1988; Grine 1993;Groves 1989; Klein 1989; Johansen et al. 1987; Nelson and Jurmain 1994;Tobias 1989, 1991, 1992; Walker, Leakey, Harris and Brown 1986; and Wood1992]

1980 Szalay, F. S. and Drawhorn, G. M "Evolution and Diversificationof the Archonta in an Arboreal Milieu" In W.P. Luckett (ed) ComparativeBiology and Evolutionary Relationships of Tree Shrews Plenum NY

[Szalay and Drawhorn (1980) is generally cited (Ciochon and Fleagle1987; Dagosto 1991; Fleagle 1988; Gunnell 1989) as stimulating renewedinterest in the concept that Tree Shrews might belong to a Superorder Archonta, along with Primates, Dermopterans, and Chiropterans]

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Proposal for"Anthropology and Athletics: a photo-exhibition by the CSUS Museum of Anthropology"- an exploration of the role of athletic activity and competition in traditional societies (Nias and Pentecost Islanders, Tarahumara Indians, etc.). To be held in conjunction with the 2000 U.S.A. Olympic Track and Field Trials held at CSUS, July 6-14, 2000
  • 1999 Sumateran Orangutan Society (founding member)- Assisted in establishment of an organization exclusively devoted to the survival and conservation of the Sumatran orangutan. Efforts to provide educational and technical assistance to the Bukit Lawang Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, and to establish an alternative rehabilitation center in habitats with reduced competition and risk of disease transmission to wild orangutan populations
  • 1998-99 Reconnaisance in karst cavern environments in West Sumatra and Jambi Province in Indonesia with Geo-Specialists evaluating the viability of integrating these areas into the sphere of interest of the Kerenci-Seblat National Park. Consultation with indigenous communities regarding resources and their interest in developing these areas for eco-tourism and cultural tourism activities.
  • 1 1998-present Bukittinggi Museum/ Zoological Park Project- Working with Indonesian colleagues to modernize a Dutch colonial-era zoological park and ethno- graphic museum in Bukittinggi, Sumatra. Translation of Dutch and Bahasa Indonesian language materials into English. Creating attractive new signage with updated ethno- graphic information. New signage in zoo with habitat and behavioral information on the animals on display in both English and Indonesian. Reorganizing the zoological museum into ecosytem dioramas. Skeletonizing some of the redundant taxidermed specimens for research and display purposes. New signs in the zoological museum.
  • 1997-2001 CSUS "River City Days" Physical Anthropology Lab Presentation- Human evolutionary materials (fossil hominid casts, primate skeletons, slides, poster displays) exhibited to members of the visiting Sacramento community (including children, teens, teachers and parents). Discussions of the evidence regarding human evolution and the social controversies surrounding its teaching in the public school curriculum.
