Introduction

Most community nutritionists use a variety of educational materials to help them educate their participants or clients. These material may include:

  • pamphlets
  • posters
  • videos
  • miscellaneous items (fridge magnets, notepads)

Sometimes community nutritionists must develop their own educational materials. This unit should help you learn how to evaluate these materials and design your own if you need to.

 


 

Objectives

1. State at least 5 criteria for evaluating or developing health and nutrition education materials.

2. State at least 2 reasons why it is important to consider the reading level of your materials.

3. State the 2 factors which readability formulas are based on.

4. Determine the reading level of at least 2 different nutrition pamphlets using the Fry Technique

5. Given 2 different pamphlets on the same nutrition education topic justify which you would use for a given target audience.

6. Demonstrate the principles of effective nutrition education materials design in any material you create this semester.
