Return to GEOG 100: SYLLABUS SCHEDULE LINKS AFTER A SEMESTER of perusing and using many different kinds of maps, you have the chance to create one of your own! This map should be a product of your interests and ingenuity, a unique, a one-of-a-kind creation. It should be an unusual map, unusual by topic and/or unusual by format: UNUSUAL BY TOPIC Your text and atlas have mapped many different topics--landforms and climates, populations and languages, agricultural regions and urban locations. You might consider a topic that these sources don't often cover. It might be an overlooked aspect of physical or of cultural geography. It might be something local or personal that most other people don't know about. UNUSUAL BY FORMAT: Most maps we've looked at this semester have been on flat paper or cloth, have chosen projections and scales with an eye to easy, unambiguous communication, and have used traditional colors and symbols to represent real world features. You, however, might use different and unexpected materials in creating a map. You might represent a familiar topic with unfamiliar media. You might appeal to senses other than the visual. PREPARE YOUR MAP for our show-and-tell on Tuesday, May the 15th. You will have only a minute in which to share your unusual map with your classmates. For participating you'll receive thirty (30) points toward the semester total. And you'll have to chance at fabulous prizes! AFTER THE PRESENTATIONS you'll be asked to vote for those you thought best. The winners will be announced and prizes awarded during our last regular class period, May 17th.
