Portfolio Assignment #2

Portfolio Assignment-Volcanoes

Part I:

Go to the book's web site and chapter 4. Go through the "multiple choice quiz".
Put your score and the date for the quiz on a sheet of paper and place it in your portfolio.

Although not required for the portfolio, it would be a good idea to go over the end of chapter questions for all chapters covered before the exam

Part II: Volcano Web exercise.

Go to the Volcano World Site:
http://volcano.und.edu/vw.html
Go to the Current Eruptions link and click on the latest eruption of Soufriere Hills, Montserrat, West Indies in the listing.
Read through the reports going back a few months. Note the record of events continues for several years.
The following should be answered in your portfolio (remember that your sentences must be your own, not those of the site):
1. What volcanic activity caused the destruction of the capital city of Plymouth in 1997?

2. When was the last time the volcanic activity closed an airport on the Island?

Next go to the Current Volcanic Activity report for Popocatepetl volcano near Mexico City.

Go to the "GVP/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report" and click on "Popocatepetl".

3. What kind of feature grew in the crater at Popocatepetl in December of 2002?

4. What destroyed this feature throughout 2003?

Return to the Volcano World home page and under the volcano name list find and go to Shasta, Mount.
