Flow Meter Photos
Flow Meter Area.jpg: This shows the space of the equipment for the flow meter experiment, except for the manometer station, which would normally be just to the right of this view. The water come in through the pipe at the right edge, through the small concrete section to the pipe that feeds the flow meters. Then it goes up to one of the meters, over the top, and spills into the weighing tank that sits on the scales. The outflow from the tank is controlled by the valve in the lower left of the tank.
VenturiNozzleOrificePhoto.tif: From left to right are venture, nozzle, and orifice meters. (Note: The flow directions in this sketch are from top to bottom, while the ones in our lab are from bottom to top.) The small water lines go from the meters to the manometer board, giving H1 and H2. In the photos, water drops from the while outlets to the tank below. The weighing scale just beyond the tank reads in pounds. Note the venture has a long recovery from the narrow point where data are taken to where the flow is full width of the pipe.
FlowMeterTaps.tif: The manometer taps connect to the line that runs to the manometer. This is just to the right of the view in the above photo. The edge of the orifice is just at the left edge of this photo. There are four sets of taps in this photo. The orifice taps are at the top, followed by the nozzle & venture taps. There are no lines connected to the other taps at this time. Note that each tap has a valve to open or close it. In this photo, it appears the venture taps are open.
FlowMeterDetail.tif: The inflow line bringing water to the flow meters can be seen at the bottom of the third photo. The control gates are in the lines coming up to the individual meters. The weighing tank and scales are toward the far side of the view.
