Employment
The number of jobs in the Butte and Glenn Counties Composite Economic Area continued to increase in 2008 with a 1.1% (1,000 job) increase; following a 1.45% (1200 job) increase in 2007. The forecast for 2009, based on actual data through December, 2008, is for a slight decrease of -0.7%.

Unemployment
The average annual Unemployment Rate for the CEA increased in 2008, up to 8.6% from the 6.9% in 2007. The forecast for 2009, based on actual data through December, 2008, is for an even higher 9.0.

Taxable Sales
The CEA had a -1.9% decline in Taxable Sales for all outlets in 2007, which followed a 3.8% increase in 2006. Based on actual data through the 4th quarter of 2007, Taxable Sales, all Outlets for 2008 will have a smaller decline of -0.68%, while 2009 will show a similar -0.69% decrease.
