General Information about the 330A/B course sequence

During spring 2001 the Educational Technology in the Classroom classes, 330 A & B, were developed by Dr. Susan O'Hara as part of a college level plan to meet CCTC (The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing) new technology standard for Multiple and Single Subject Credential Candidates. The course sequence was designed for implementation in the Department of Teacher Education. 330A&B are designed so that pre service teachers experience a program, which enables them to simultaneously improve their technological skills while developing their understanding and knowledge of how to effectively infuse technology into their teaching. An electronic portfolio requirement with defined criteria was also developed by Dr. O'Hara for students to demonstrate that they are meeting the required competencies.

The course sequence is a practical introduction to the use and applications of computer based technologies in the K-12 grade classroom. The course sequence consists of online, self paced modules, and seven two-hour face-to-face sessions. The online modules enable students to gain computer skills in a variety of areas, and take an average of two hours each to complete. The face-to-face sessions facilitate an effective application of the skills learned in the online modules, reflections on the technology integration students experience in their methods courses, and assist student teachers as they begin to compile an electronic portfolio of their work. Major topics include basic computer terminology and functions, educational software and web site evaluation and integration into instruction, using telecommunication, multimedia authoring, web page design and issues relating to the impact of computers in a democratic society.
