Mission: Possible!

Introduction

You’ve been asked by the President himself to travel to the Middle East on a mission!   He wants to know what students are learning in the Middle East.   You grab your tape recorder.  Next, you make sure your laptop is charged up…the journey may be difficult.  You double check to make sure you’re wearing your disguise – this is a mission only for those who are willing to take the tough risks…  WILL YOU GET THE SCOOP?  This could be your big break at the newspaper and with the President!

Task 

You are a newspaper reporter who will be writing an EXPOSÉ on the education system in a particular Middle Eastern country.  You need to find out what the system of education is like in that country and write a summary of the important parts.

After you’ve decided on your area of expertise and research, you will then get to the real business at hand – the SCOOP!  You will be responsible for

• Researching (using Internet search techniques during social studies class)
• Outlining and writing your story/ exposé  (during Language Arts class)
• Presenting your finished project to the editors of the newspaper (the class!) and don’t forget, THE PRESIDENT! (Ms. Loughran)

Process

§      First, you will choose a Middle Eastern country from the atlas at the back of your textbook.

§      Next, once you’ve decided on your country, use the Internet (remember the Google searches we did in class) and library to research the system of education in that country (you need to collect 10 facts written in note form)

• Using your notes, you will write a rough draft of your EXPOSÉ on that country’s education system
• Using our collaborative groups in class, we will correct each article in class, and you will complete your final draft for homework
• After completing your final draft, you will orally present your article to the class

Evaluation

• Your exposé will be graded on three areas:  creativity, quality of written work and turned in on time…

• Now you have learned something new about a different country.  Hopefully, this ‘mission: possible” made research and awareness of other cultures fascinating!  This Webquest will self-destruct in 30 seconds…. 1…2…3….
