Introduction

  • Where would we be without our local heroes? The men and women who improve and make our community safe. These people are often overlooked an d underappreciated. So we are going to give them a big thank you for all they do for us.

Task

  • You are going to write a letter thanking your local hero for being a part in helping our community.

Process

·      You are going to choose a local hero to write to. It can be police, firefighters, military persons, or doctors, or anyone that you think makes a contribution to our community.

·      In your letter you are going to tell them why they are a hero, what they do that is heroic, and how you are going to be a hero in the future.

·      Please make sure that you follow letter writing rules including a proper heading and closure to the letter, spelling counts.

Evaluation:

  • After the letters are finished, the teacher will check for spelling and content. Then the students will share their letter in class. The final step will be to send the letter to our heroes.

 

Conclusion:

·      As a class we want to appreciate our community around us and learn how we can help our community like our local heroes we are thanking in this activity.

·      Who else is a hero to you? How can you thank them?
