Special Agent 22
Introduction
·1 You are special agent 22 your job is to find any areas in the
vicinity of the White House where terrorists could be hiding. You must
remain undercover this is an extremely dangerous mission. You must not
be seen and your mission must not be discovered. Not even the president
is aware of your mission.
Task
·2 Your task is to go to MapTech Map Server at
http://www.mapserver.maptech.com/homepage.index
This website will give you Topo Maps, Nautical Charts, Navy photos and
Aeronautical charts. You are to use whatever is necessary to accomplish
your mission.
Process
· A link is available to experiment with the mapserver website.
This link will take you to a handout in which students are able to
explore the site. You are to enter the website at www.mapserver.maptech.com
From this site you will be able to view through the various maps available
the area surrounding the White House. Notice that you will be given
the exact location of the maps you are going to see. Pay close attention
to the Navy photomap. If the map is too big and you wish to get a
different view go to the bottom of the map where it says zoom. CLick on the
arrow and change the zoom to 50% This will give you a view of a larger area.
Answer these questions in paragraph form:
- What do you see?
- How this photo might be useful to people, our city,
or our government?
- How do you think having access to this type of information
could be harmful?
- If so why?
- Did you find any areas that concern
you in regards to the safety of the White House?
Evaluation
· Each student will be assessed on their ability to answer the questions
posed. Sentences are written in proper form. Students make predictions
and inferences in their writing. Assessment will be in the form of:
1-needs assistance
2-Answers need more clarification
3-Answers all questions but has some grammatical errors
4-Answers all questions creatively and there are no grammatical errors.
Conclusion
· In this activity students will be able to use different types of maps
for different purposes. Students will know what a topographic map, nautical
charts, navy photos, and aeronautical charts can be used for and how this
technology can be helpful or harmful.
