  • Have you ever heard about pirates? The worldÕs oceans were once a place that pirates sailed their ships and stole from people. On occasion, they took passengers aboard their ships.
  • Are you ready for adventure? How would you like to take a trip aboard an old pirate ship and be swept away to another ocean far from our Pacific Ocean?
  • You my friend are about to go on an adventure. First, after a long journey the pirates will make you walk the plank and wash ashore on a small landmass somewhere in our big world.
  • Then youÕll use your knowledge of longitude and latitude and find your way back to the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco.
  • On your return trip youÕll stop at the continent of your choice and enjoy the local environment.

  • Please let your fingers do the exploring at the website for pirates and their unlucky captives, enter here
  • Your task will be to do 3 things
  • 1. Use your map skills and figure out what country the pirates made you walk the plank and make your getaway. The continent is Australia/Oceania and the initials of the country are P.N.G. You must figure this clue first!
  • 2. Use your map skills again and plot the latitude and longitude of this country and the coordinates of San Francisco so you can tell yourÉ
  • 3. Rescuers how to return you to home sweet home!
  • 4. Write a 5 paragraph report on the stop-over you make on the way home. Pick a continent and country that youÕve always wished to visit.

á   step 1- use the websites to discover what country goes by P. N. G. and then find your way home by longitude and latitude

 

á   step 2 - do the important research on the continent and country you select.

á   Did you find the country the pirates left you in?

á   Did you get the coordinates right for both locations?

á   Share with your mates your adventure in the country you visited

á   This will be completed by giving a 3-minute talk in front of the class about your favorite country research. Being in character as a stranded enemy of the pirates counts as extra credit.
