IntroductionWant to make a mark in History? How about a “Land”mark? Your vision, your design, your mark in history.
Everyday, people are reminded of U.S. History. Across the United States, famous landmarks can be found in every state, from the east coast to the west coast. Landmarks signify a memorable and significant day, event, or person in history and are preserved to serve as a remembrance to future generations.
However, many events or people in U.S. have been forgotten. It is up to you to research why certain memorials were made and what events or people you believe should have one.

TaskIn groups of three, you are to research famous United States landmarks and their importance to U.S. history. During your research, find out the important facts about these landmarks (date built, importance, etc.)
Once you have research the landmark information, as a group you are to create a timeline that demonstrates the chronological order in which these landmarks were built.
After you have completed the timeline, find a period of time on the timeline that your group believes a landmark should be created. Your decision and design should be based on a significant time in U.S. history that you believe needs to be remembered.
Below you will find the guidelines in order to achieve the ultimate goal.

Process1. Use the Internet* and the resources listed below to research important facts about six of the ten famous U.S. landmarks of your choice from the list below. For each landmark that is research, you must find the date it was built, the purpose of it being built, and its significance to United States history.
*You may use printed material from the classroom library and/or the school or public library to aid in your research, but your primary source of information should come from the Internet.
2. For each landmark, make sure you record the information listed above and the websites and books that you used in your search.
3. Once the information is found and recorded, use a piece of butcher paper to create a timeline. Your timeline should have the following information (date, title, brief description of landmark, and pictures). Use a creative title to capture the audience’s eye.
4. Once your timeline is completed, insert your own landmark on the timeline. Make sure you note the event that took place and a brief description that you are creating the landmark after and the location.
5. Add a picture also that you and your group designed of your new landmark.
6. Present your timeline to the class; introducing your new landmark and why you believe it should be created and its significance to U.S. history.

A regular search through a teacher-approved search engine may also be done, but check these resources first to find the information you will need. Additionally, any links appearing on the pages below may be followed in order to gather useful facts which may help you create your timeline.
