Introduction

We have many runs in our school that we must follow.  We also have many laws that we must follow.  But who knows how they become laws? You are going to teach your fellow students about the branches of government and who makes the laws, carries out the laws, and determines if the laws have been broken for your city (Sacramento), state (California), and country (United States). 

Task

Your task is to learn how our government works.  You need to use the internet sites provided to find out who makes the laws, carries out the laws, and decides if laws have been broken for your local (Sacramento), state (California), and national (United States) government.  The information you gather will be used to create a poster.

Process

1. First you'll be assigned to a team of 3 students. 

2. Your team will need to learn about the three branches of government.

3.      Each team will be assigned one level of government, National (United States), State (California) or Local (Sacramento), to learn about.

4.      Use the following websites to find your information (State-

5.      Each group will make a poster.

    Directions for making the poster:

·        Divide the poster into three parts: Makes laws, Carries out Laws, and Determines if Laws Have Been Broken. 

·        Give your poster a title using the name of the level of government you have been assigned. (Local- Sacramento; State- California; National- United States). 

·        Add a written description of each branch of government and the pictures.

Conclusion

It is important for us to know about how our government works.  You should be able to explain how the governing bodies that make the laws, carry out the laws, and determine if the laws have been broken.  I hope you had fun learning and teaching about how our government works.
