This is the CSUS Public Lecture Series Page for Randy L. Phelps.

As part of its commitment to furthering education in the greater Sacramento region, the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the California State University, Sacramento holds occasional "Public Nights" at the CSUS observatory.  The current format includes an evening lecture lasting 45 minutes, aimed at a general audience of all ages, followed by observing of the night sky, weather permitting.  Lectures, which will be given regardless of the weather, will be in Amador Hall.  The current semester schedule for the Public Nights follows:

                                Lecture: 8 p.m. in Mendocino Hall, Room 1015                  Observatory: 9-10 p.m. atop Amador Hall

Dates for the Spring 2001 Semester are as follows.  Please check this site prior to attending for any updates.

Location: Amador Hall is located on the west side of the campus, near the parking structure.  The CSUS observatory is located on the roof of Amador Hall (Psychology building) on the West side of the campus.  Take the elevator to the 4th floor, and turn left as you exit the elevator.

Parking: There is no charge for these events.  Parking is free, on the 4th floor of the parking structure/student section (1-hour prior to and 1-hour after the event).  Parking on campus is otherwise by permit only, and is enforced 24-hours per day.  Daily parking permits may be purchased for $1.75 from any daily permit machine.

CSUS Student Viewing Opportunities:  There are several off-campus "Dark Sky Observing" opportunities available for CSUS student only throughout the semester.  These are held at Cameron Park, and are currently scheduled for March 23, 2001 and April 27, 2001.  These observing events are held from sunset to 12:00 (midnight).  Please see the map for directions.
