ANTH 160 :: Linguistic Anthropology :: Fall 2005

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT IN FALL 2005 ANTH 004 (GE AREA A3) "LANGUAGE, CULTURE, AND CRITICAL THINKING" WILL BE TAUGHT.

Catalog Description:

An introduction to language and linguistics for anthropologists with emphasis on the role of linguistic anthropology in the development of theory and method within the discipline; non-human communication systems, language acquisition, and culture theory; the fundamentals of descriptive and structural linguistics; types of human languages; the diversity and distribution of languages from prehistoric to modern times; fundamentals of historical linguistics and protocultural studies. 

Prerequisite and requirements:  ANTH 002.

Number of Units:  03

Students will need an electronic mail account and computer access to the Web. All CSUS students enrolled in one or more units can create a SacLink account for electronic mail and Internet services. Although a home computer with a high speed modem running Netscape or Internet Explorer would be beneficial, students can use the Web from one of the campus student labs. Word processing skills
Online class participation on the Web assignments and electronic discussions
