The Cross-Angelo Curriculum Goals Model <The Berkeley Model> provides a set of goals and objectives for any course at a major college or university, regardless of subject matter. We have used a slightly modified version of this proposal in designing this section of English 1C. The points listed below are all equally important, but they are grouped in terms of the emphasis we will be giving to them this semester.
1. Develop ability to apply principles and generalizations already learned to new problems and situations
2. Develop analytic skills
3. Develop problem-solving skills
4. Develop ability to draw reasonable inferences from observations
5. Develop ability to synthesize and integrate information and ideas
6. Develop the ability to think holistically: to see the whole as well as the parts
7. Develop the ability to distinguish between fact and opinion
8. Develop an openness to new ideas
9. Develop a capacity to think for one's self
1. Improve ability to follow directions, instructions and plans
2. Improve skill at paying attention
