Hi, my name is Paul. When it was suggested that we all choose an "identity,"
I decided that I would revert back to my old America Online name, Paultrgist.
And yes, I used to subscribe to that lovely service. I'm not quite sure if
I will get sued if I flame AOL or Steve Case here, so perhaps I should
refrain...
I am a senior/junior/something at California State University, Sacramento -
affectionately, but appropriately, nicknamed Slack State. And boy, is that
the truth. I graduated high school in 1990. Do the math. It's been a
while.
What I like: Really hot foods are cool. I don't know if I can give a plug,
but what the hell, here goes: TRY DAVE'S INSANITY SAUCE. It is the hottest
that I have ever tried. Viper Venom is a good salsa con fuego, but not
nearly as hot.
I am really into music man, like that is totally where I am. I mean, that's
like where it is at. (Yes, I am from Cali, and no, I don't surf - or as a
young lady I met in Venice once asked: "Do you surfer?" "No, but I do
suffer.") Like, one of these days I am totally going to get my act together
and learn how to play my axe (guitar for those from Rio Linda) and thrash
with one of them bands. I also am teaching myself bass. (I've mastered
the simple rhythms of Adam Clayton and will soon graduate to Flea) I also
like to listen to the tunes. I would like to brag that I have one of those
road thumping, window cracking, child bearing boom box stereos, but I don't
(brag). A sample of my tastes to follow: U2 (rare, live, rare live), UB40,
Tom Petty, Tom Jones, that one song from Jesus Jones about being right here
right now, most classic rock (Floyd, Jimmy, Led Zepp-e-lin baby), Neil
Diamond (only person under 30 to have seen him twice), blues (Sonny Terry,
BB, Memphis Slim), jazz (Coltrane, THE INCREDIBLE JIMMY SMITH), Paul Simon,
Simon and Garfunkel, the Dead, and lots more.
But I don't want to give you the impression that music is my life. No man,
like there is TV. There is a lot to learn from TV. Did you see the latest
episode of Dr. Quinn? Actually, I really dig movies. Favorites: The
Mission (De Niro, Irons, very early Liam Neeson), Parenthood (Martin,
Moranis, TOM HULCE), Pastime (William Russ), The Natural (Redford,
Farnsworth, Brimly), Glengarry GlenRoss (Pacino, Lemmon), Bob Roberts
(Robbins), Tales of the City (Chloe Webb, others), and Amadeus (Abrahms,
Hulce). All have outstanding performances from those listed, and others...
My dream job would be that of the unemployed wandering sage. There is much
to tell, and few to tell it.
Have you checked out Dennis Miller? I know that he is really hip and trendy
right now, but his older stuff is really good, esp. Black and White.
I like to read. Stephen King is cool. Read Thinner, The Dead Zone, and the
Long Walk. L'Carre is cool too - kindof the opposite of Flemming's Bond.
John Irving is nice and perverted.
I do like the Giants. I think that there should be a national registry for
all know Dodger fans. However, those who truly love baseball can appreciate
a game, regardless of who plays, wins, or scores that winning run.
In closing, I will leave you with the following notes:
1. Bobby Hurley should start for the Sacramento Kings
2. The greatest rock album is not Led Zepp-e-lin's Runes, it is Dr. Hook
and the Medicine Show's Sloppy Seconds.
3. It is not the branches that whistle in the wind. It is the wind that
whistles in the branches.
