Course Description

The Physics 5A-B sequence is a two-semester course in introductory physics in which fundamental concepts are emphasized including some physiological applications. These courses satisfy the requirement for pre-medical and pre-dental students and biology majors. Lecture one hour; quiz two hours; laboratory three hours.
Prerequisites: recently completed three years of high school algebra and geometry (Math 9 recommended for those having an inadequate mathematics background.)

Technology Requirements

Students will need an electronic mail account and computer access to the Web. All CSUS students enrolled in one or more units can create a SacLink account for electronic mail and Internet services. For further information on SacLink check the UCCS documentation page at http://www.csus.edu/uccs/document/document.htm. Although a home computer with a high speed modem running Netscape or Internet Explorer would be beneficial, students can use the Web from one of the campus student labs.

Computing Recommendations

 Comfortable using the computer and browsing the Web

Windows compatible 386 running Windows 3.1, Windows NT, or Windows 95 or Macintosh compatible with System 7.1 or higher

8M RAM (preferably 16M)

14.4K or faster modem

Microsoft Internet Explorer or NetScape 2.0 (or higher)

SacLink or other Internet Account

Word processing skills

Online class participation on the Web assignments and electronic discussions.

Successful Student Characteristics

Discipline to complete assignments by deadlines; motivation to read, write, and participate fully in class activities; and time to devote approximately 12 hours a week to a 4-credit course.
