Debra Welkley received her Master of Arts degree in Sociology from Baylor University. She has taught at six different college/university and community college campuses during the past 19 years. In addition to teaching she has 20+ years of experience in the field of social services. This experience ranges from the role of consultant to direct line staff member to administrator. She uses these experiences to augment lectures and classroom activities. She is committed to an educational process that both the student and instructor engage in together. Primary areas of interest include race and ethnicity, social problems, marriage and family, and community.

Debra currently teaches full time at California State University, Sacramento as well as part-time at Cosumnes River College and American River College.

Whether teaching, meeting with a student during office hours, working with a client, or advising an agency...Debra attempts to 'become the change which she seeks' (adapted from a quotation by Gandhi). She invites all who visit this site to explore and learn more about this discipline through the sites listed at the left.

As we broaden our understanding of the world around us we come to understand ourselves.
