Class Activity Assignment
At the beginning of the semester you will sign up to present an in-class activity to our class that would be appropriate for an Introductory Psychology class (either Psyc 1 or Psyc 5).
Requirements for the Activity:
It should be designed to help students understand a particular concept that would be covered in an Intro Psych course.
You will have exactly 10 minutes to set-up and present your activity to the class. The activity for that day will always occur at the very beginning of class. If you need extra time to get set up, then make sure you arrive a little early to class. The activity should be ready to go at exactly 1:30, and be completed by 1:40. If your activity requires materials for the students to use, make sure you bring enough for 15 people to participate.
Your activity should be as unique as possible. This should be an activity that you develop from scratch, not one from a book or from a class you once took. Other students can look up the typical activities, so it would be more beneficial to the rest of the class to see some new ideas for class activities. This should your activity.
You should write up an instruction sheet on how to conduct the activity and include all necessary items to conduct the activity (or include a list if the equipment needed is not paper based), and bring seventeen copies to class. Each student (including yourself) will receive a copy. In addition, two copies will need to be handed in to me, one of which will be returned to you with comments and your grade, and one of which will be placed into a collection with all the other activites. At the end of the semester, each student will have a collection of all of the activities presented during the semester for future use when teaching an Intro Psych class.
You will be graded on the usefulness/effectiveness of the activity in illustrating the topic, the uniqueness of the activity (if it is like other activities we've seen in class or others common to classes here at sac state), the design of the activity, and your presentation of the activity in our class (how well you run the activity, organization, time management, control of the class, etc.). You should conduct the activity with us as an instructor, as if you were conducting it in an Intro Psych class. You are the instructor and we are your intro students.
