Assignment and Grading Rubric
due Thursday, October 20
Develop a homework assignment that would be appropriate for either a Psyc 1 or Psyc 5 class to complete in a one week time period (i.e. no huge term papers for this one). The homework assignment should relate to either the Physiological chapter (Psyc 1), or the Personality chapter (Psyc 5). The assignment should have a written component to it (i.e. writing a paragraph rather than circling a correct answer). Other than that you are free to come up with whatever type of homework assignment you would like. When you turn in your assignment, include a paragraph describing the purpose of the assignment from a teaching perspective and what you hope to achieve with it. Remember that the purpose of assignments is to help the students more fully understand a particular concept that is important in that area. Approach it as a way to further aid their studying, and not just as another method of testing their knowledge.
Also create a grading rubric, which is a detailed explanation of how the assignment will be graded (what you'll be looking for in the written answers, number of points awarded for different t ypes of answers, etc.). When creating a rubric it is important to remember what the requirements of the assignment were. You don't want to grade on something that wasn't put forth in the assignment.
Here are a few different examples of rubrics for how to grade a research paper: ----- Rubric 1 ---- Rubric 2 --- Rubric 3 ----- Note: these all have strengths and weaknesses, and are just here to give you an idea of what a rubric is. Work to create a rubric that is appropriate for you assignment and don't worry about trying to transform one of these. Work to develop your own that makes sense to you and your (future) students.
