Teaching Style Assignment
Due Thursday, Sept. 29
For this assignment you will need to attend two different Intro Psychology (either Psyc 1 or Psyc 5) lectures by different instructors.
When you attend the class you should examine and take notes on his/her teaching style and method. Note how the styles of the instructors are similar and different, and what you think were the most effective techniques of each.
Write a reaction paper (approximately 2-3 pages total) discussing the teaching styles of the two instructors. Use this as an opportunity for you to get ideas and reflect on different ways to organize and present information to a group of students. Everyone has their own style, and something that is very effective for one instructor may not fit with the style of another instructor. As you watch the lectures, begin thinking about how you would go about presenting the information and what your style would be like. When writing your reaction to the two instructors, focus on their style and the techniques they used to present the material and engage the students. Also note the amount and level of the information that they present in the class.
Finally, you are all free to come in and observe my Psyc 1 class this semester. However, you should choose 2 other instructors on which to write your reaction paper. Outside of this assignment I would be happy to discuss with you all aspects of my teaching style and how I conduct my classes.
