Yokohama National University, Japan
Yokohama National University, situated in the center of Japan’s second largest city, is one of the foremost institutions of higher education in Japan. It is located on a hilltop overlooking downtown Yokohama and is only 4 kilometers from Yokohama Station, the city’s transportation hub. Yokohama is easily accessible to the capital city of Tokyo and other cities across Honshu by the country's state-of-the-art rail system.
YNU has approximately 10,700 undergraduate and graduate students. Participants in this study abroad program take courses in the JOY (Junior Year Overseas at YNU) Program, an undergraduate program offered by YNU’s International Student Center. JOY students take courses taught in English by top YNU faculty spanning the fields of humanities, social sciences, and engineering as related to Japan in addition to taking Japanese language courses. Participants with sufficient Japanese language proficiency also can take courses taught in Japanese.

Academic Eligibility
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of application
- One semester completed at Sacramento State
- Junior or Senior standing (60+ units completed)
- One semester of college-level Japanese or equivalent
- Graduate students are not eligible for this program

Other elective courses may be offered in different discipline, however due to the limited number of courses offered students should not expect a full semester worth of courses in those areas.
Students with high intermediate level of Japanese language may be eligible to enroll in courses taught in Japanese.

Housing Options
Yokohama National University (YNU) places all JOY program participants in university housing for international students. Participants are assigned a single room usually at one of two dormitories, Minesawa International Student Dormitory or YNU International Student House.
Minesawa International Student Dormitory is for YNU International Student and YNU Japanese Student.
The dormitory has 332 single rooms (about 100 rooms for international student).
Yokohama National University International Student House is for YNU International Student Dormitory.
The dormitory has 128 single rooms,10 married couple rooms and 10 family rooms.
The dormitory is located in 5 -minute walk from Gumyoji Subway Station. It takes about 20 minutes from Gumyoji to Mitsuzawakamicho Subway Station where is near our university.
