Graduate Admission

The Spring 2020 application filing period will open August 1, 2019.  The closing application filing period for most programs is September 15, 2019.   View our resource document for program requirements and details.

How to Apply

  1. Submit an online graduate application at Cal State Apply

    We strongly recommend that you review the Cal State Apply International Student Guide before applyling.  Please note that a non-refundable application fee of $55 USD will need to be paid before submitting the application online using a credit/debit card or PayPal account.  Checks or money order are not be accepted. 

  2. Official English Proficiency Score Report (Institution Code: 4671)

    TOEFL - Minimum of 80 iBT
    IELTS - Minimum of 7.0 Band Score
    PTE Academic Score: 65

    iTEP - Minimum 5.0 

    NOTE: Mail in an unofficial score report along with other required documents
  3. Official GRE or GMAT Score Report (Institution Code: 4671) only if required by the graduate program

  4. Original or certified copies of Postsecondary Academic Credentials with English translations. All academic work must be included such semester marksheets, consolidated transcript, and degree certificate (or provisional if not yet awarded).

  5. Financial statement (no older than 6 months) and Sacramento State Financial Affidavit demonstrating source (sponsored, self-funded, etc.), in addition to a minimum amount of $29,300 (USD) to support academic study at Sacramento State. MBA applicants must show a minimum of $34,200.  Both documents are required for an I-20 to be issued.  (Note: these items may be submitted after an offer of admission is made by the department and are not required for the admission review to take place)

  6. A copy of the biographic information/photo page in your passport.

  7. Additional Documentation (if required by the department).  Applicants must meet any additional program requirements as specified by the major department.  Please note that the department will not follow up on incomplete applications.

What To Expect After You Submit Your Cal State Apply application:

  1. Within 2 business days of submitting your application, you should receive an automated email from Sac State containg your Sac State ID number.  If you do not receive an email, please contact our office as soon as  possible via email at:  When sending the email, please include the following three items: 1.  Cal State Apply ID; 2. Full name (given and surname); 3. Date of birth  
  2. Using your Sac State ID number, you will be able to set up your SacLink account. This will enable your access to OnBase, which is an online database designed to allow applicants to upload application documetns such as statement of purpose, resume/CV, letters of recommendation, and additional items you would like faculty to review in support of your application. 
  3. The application review process varies by department, but it is typical for departments to release decisions for fall 2019 starting in March - May.  Questions about your application status can be directed to our office at
