Health Services at Sacramento State

Good physical and mental health is important to academic success. The Student Health Center provides basic health care to all registered Sacramento State students. Most services are free, however, some services are provided at a discounted cost for students. The Health Center is located inside The Well. You may contact them at the following numbers:

Information/Appointments - 278-6461

Psychological Services - 278-6416

Laboratory - 278-6053

Emergencies (Campus Police) - 278-6900

Other Emergencies – 911

The Health Center operates on an appointment and non-appointment basis Monday through Friday (please contact the information number for exact office hours). They are closed on weekends and holidays. They perform a large number of services including:

  1. Out-patient care and treatment normally performed in a physician’s office.
  2. Diagnosis and treatment of ambulatory illness and injuries.
  3. On-campus emergency calls. Urgent care services are given priority at the Health Center. When the facility is not open, students will have to contact neighborhood emergency rooms / urgent care center at their own cost (which may be reimbursable from your health insurance policy).
  4. Sexually transmitted disease information and treatment.
  5. The wellness program includes nutrition and diet counseling.
  6. Emotional, mental, and social counseling and referral.
  7. Pharmacy.
  8. Laboratory.
  9. X-ray.
  10. Physical Therapy.
  11. Immunizations. Medically indicated immunizations such as Measles / Rubella are available.

The Psychological Services unit at the Student Health Center is staffed by psychologists, social workers, marriage and family counselors and a psychiatrist. Services are provided in a confidential setting on an individual, family, or group basis to provide assistance with personal, social, family, or adjustment difficulties. The staff is sensitive to the challenges facing the international student. Students may be seen on a drop-in basis Monday through Friday. Call 278-6416 drop in times and more information.

Hospitalization and major medical services are beyond the scope of the Student Health Center. Therefore, to protect international students against unexpected major financial losses resulting from lengthy hospitalization and other costly medical services, Sacramento State requires all international students to show written a proof of adequate health insurance prior to registering for classes.

If a medical emergency occurs when the Health Center is closed or if your dependent(s) become ill or injured, you will need to turn to a community health facility. The following is a list of some hospitals and Urgent Care centers located within Sacramento County. Please spend a few minutes going over this list in order to determine which hospital is closest to your residence. Since phone numbers are subject to periodic change, we urge you to contact the hospital which you have selected as your “emergency health care” facility to obtain all necessary emergency numbers and information.
