Meet the Staff of IPGE

Paul Hofmann Dr. Paul Hofmann, Associate Vice President for International Affairs

Dr. Hofmann is Sacramento State’s Senior International Officer (SIO) and has administrative oversight of International Programs and Global Engagement (IPGE). Dr. Hofmann was formerly the Assistant Vice President for International Affairs at Fresno State and the Director of the Center for International Programs at Bowling Green State University. He holds a BA in Political Science from Adrian College, MA in International Relations from the University of Toledo, MA in Higher Education from San Jose State University and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Bowling Green State University. 



Stephanie IngvaldsonStephanie Ingvaldson, Director of International Programs

Stephanie has over a decade of experience in the field of international education and has previous experience working with international students in the UC and CSU systems. She earned her undergraduate degrees in Economics and International Development Studies from UCLA, focusing on economic development in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, and also earned a Master of Science in Counseling from Fresno State, where she researched the relationship between socialization and academic achievement among international female students. Working with international students has been one of the most rewarding professional experiences of Stephanie's career.



Kunyi ChengKunyi Cheng, Coordinator of Global Initiatives

Kunyi serves as Coordinator of Global Initiatives. She holds a BA in English and MA in Foreign & Applied Linguistics from Shenyang Normal University in China and a MA in Higher Educational Administration and Leadership from California State University, Fresno.  She is currently pursuing her PhD in Higher Education Leadership for Changing Populations at University of Notre Dame, Maryland.  Kunyi brings a set of diverse international education experiences to Sacramento State.  She has held faculty positions in the Department of English at both Shenyang Normal University and Liaoning Administration College of Police and Justice, and served in numerous positions serving international students.  As part of her role as Coordinator of Global Initiatives, Kunyi is the CHEPD 1+2+1 Program Coordinator. 



Megan Hambright Megan Hambright, International Affairs Analyst

Megan began working in IPGE as a Student Assistant after returning home from a semester abroad at Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada. After graduating from Sacramento State with a Bachelor’s of Arts in French, Megan returned to the office. Her experience abroad has furthered her passion for international education and learning new languages. Megan hopes to earn a Master’s degree at Sacramento State in the future.



Kathryn Morrissey Kathryn Morrissey, Study Abroad Coordinator

Kathryn holds a BA in Economics from the California State University, Fullerton and a Masters in Public Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Originally from Southern California, she has worked with study abroad students at two other CSU campuses prior to coming to Sacramento. During her undergraduate degree, Kathryn studied abroad in Florence Italy.



XImena Ospina Ximena Ospina, Study Abroad Advisor

Ximena is an advocate of international education and believes that with education, compassion, and collaboration we can strengthen our global community. She has worked, lived and studied in Colombia, Spain, Peru and from east to west of the U.S. In the last 6 years, she has worked in the non-profit sector with organizations centered on educational development worldwide.  Ximena in fluent in Spanish, and holds a B.S. in Business Administration Management and a dual M.A. in Public Administration and International Education Management.



Alessandra Alessandra McMorris, Coordinator of Faculty-led Study Abroad

Alessandra is the Coordinator for Faculty-led Study Abroad in the College of Continuing Education.  Alessandra was born and raised in Brazil where she taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) for almost 10 years in Belo Horizonte before coming to the United States to study abroad.  She earned a MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at California State University, East Bay, where she taught ESL composition and general studies, before coming to Sacramento State. Alessandra strongly believes in the value of studying abroad and the importance of building bridges of understanding. 


Alex Shigenaga Alex Shigenaga, Coordinator of International Student and Scholar Services

Alex began working in international education in 2009 at the University of California, Santa Cruz Intensive English Program. After earning his bachelor's, Alex went on to become Senior Program Coordinator for the English Language Institute (ELI) at Sacramento State. Since 2015, he has been advising international students at IPGE. A native of Sacramento, Alex enjoys welcoming new students and showing them everything the city and campus have to offer. Alex holds a BA in History from UCSC and an MBA from Sacramento State, where he studied abroad in Sydney, Australia.



Erika Mendoza Erika Mendoza, International Student and Scholar Advisor

Erika holds a BA in International Relations from the University of California, Davis and a MA in Higher Education Leadership from California State University, Sacramento. She moved to California from Manta, Ecuador and is fluent in Spanish. Part of her undergraduate education was completed in Italy and she has traveled to many countries in Europe and Latin America. Erika is interested in international education, leadership, student outreach, and foreign languages; and she loves theater and soccer.



Karla Piacentini Karla Piacentini, Coordinator of International Admissions

Karla’s bicultural upbringing in a Mexican-American household in Sacramento instilled in her a deep admiration for engaging across cultures and languages. After graduating from CSUS with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Spanish, Karla served as a US Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines working jointly with grassroots community partners to implement educational and public health development projects. Karla recently completed a dual-degree Master’s in International Education Management and Public Administration from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. Karla is passionate about international education and exchange and improving access to higher educational opportunities for diverse student populations.



Caroline Peretti Caroline Peretti, International Admissions Specialist

Caroline began working in the international field over 20 years ago as an intern in Santiago, Chile. After graduating from the University of California, Davis with a BA in International Relations, she worked for a global company based in San Francisco. In 2008, she began working as an International Student Advisor at the English Language Institute (ELI) at Sacramento State. In 2011 she joined the International Admissions office. Caroline has traveled and lived abroad from an early age. She has worked and studied in South America and Europe. She is fluent in Spanish.




File Name Stephanie Palmer, International Admissions Specialist

Stephanie's interest in international education began in 2009 when she was a Rotary Exchange Student in Germany.  Upon her return, Stephanie went on to earn a BA in both International Relations and German from the University of California, Davis.  She worked for a study abroad program at UC Davis for several years before leaving to pursue a Master's degree in Comparative and International Education at the University of Oslo in Norway.  Her experience studying abroad as well as working with international students here in California has instilled a passion for international education.
