Capital Fellows applications now available

The Center for California Studies of California State University, Sacramento is now accepting applications for the prestigious Capital Fellowship Programs, which offer 64 positions through the Jesse Unruh Assembly Fellowship, the California Executive Fellowship, the Judicial Administration Fellowship and the California Senate Fellowship.

Capital Fellows work as full-time legislative, executive and judicial professional staff members, handling policy and implementation issues in offices throughout California’s three branches of government. Fellows also attend a weekly academic seminar and earn 12 graduate units from Sacramento State. They receive a monthly stipend of $1,972 plus benefits, and University fees are paid.

“The Capital Fellowship Programs offer wonderful opportunities to get hands-on experience with public policy at the legislative, executive and judicial levels,” says Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez. “Alumni of these programs include members of Congress and the state Legislature, judges, corporate executives and civic leaders throughout California.”

Applications are open to anyone with a four-year college degree and entry-level knowledge of California government, politics and policies. Applicants must have earned their undergraduate degrees by September 2005. Applicants from all majors are encouraged to apply, as are those with advanced degrees and career experience.

Final selection of the 64 fellows is made in May. The deadline for submitting applications is Feb. 23.

Applications are available at the Center for California Studies at 6000 J St., Sacramento, CA 95819-6081. Contact the center at (916) 278-6906 or Program materials and applications are at
