Prayer Breakfast celebrates Martin Luther King’s vision

“Celebrating the Dream: God is Faithful – Just Look Where He Has Brought Us From,” is the title of this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast. The breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 in Sacramento State’s University Union Ballroom.

Performances include the Sacramento Metropolitan Choir’s young adult choir, the Northern District Baptist Association’s Praise Dancers and a special guest musical performance by Dena Hamilton. The keynote speaker is Rev. LaVell Jones, pastor at Second Greater Faith Baptist Church in Stockton, CA.

This year marks the 25th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast hosted by the NDBA at Sacramento State. It also marks the 40th anniversary of the famed civil rights leader’s assassination.

The prayer breakfast, rooted in the early years of the civil rights movement, is held in remembrance of King. Sacramento State has hosted a number of events in memory of the civil rights leader, including the recent 40th anniversary of his visit to Sacramento State on Oct. 16, 1967, where he spoke to more than 7,000 faculty, staff, students and community members about his vision of peace.

Tickets for the breakfast are $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under and are available for purchase prior to the event or at the door.

For more information on the event or to purchase tickets, contact Marie Owens at (916) 206-2995. For media assistance, contact Sacramento State’s Public Affairs office at (916) 278-6156.
